Time flies

October 26, 2008

Phew, how time flies... Yet, we've won an hour this weekend! Winter-time has set in, meaning we've had an hour extra this weekend. Well, we did lost it earlier this year...

Today was also the last day of the exposition - its been two weeks already! Time does fly.

Tomorrow I'll be back at the venue to collect my work. And this Tuesday my car's gotta go to the garage. Its the 150.000 km check-up. I'm afraid its gonna cost me at least 500 Euros. I'll be trying a new garage this time around. The previous one wasn't all that great to be honest.

At my previous garage they didn't tell me anything. When I'd turn up to collect the car they'd just say "oh yeah, we've made some extra costs". Because I hated that (it happened a few times) I've now gone for a new garage. I hope this one communicates better with me. I never minded the extra costs, I did mind them not communicating with me.

Anyway, its a busy week ahead. Those are the better ones, because when you're busy time flies and its a new weekend soon. And thats the circle of life: time flies!

Speak soon.

Exposition

October 19, 2008

I have mentioned it before and this will be the final time I do: my work is currently shown in a family-exposition. Twenty-two members of the Van Herpt family (my mother's side) are showcasing their skills in an exposition.

The work is shown in the village of Moergestel at gallery 'De Verdieping'. I am not showing any new work, if you're a regular visitor of this website - you'll know all the work already.

The only thing that is new about my work is that I printed two pieces on canvas. Each canvas is one meter wide and one-and-a-half meter high. They can be seen in my portfolio on this website.

Oh yeah, something else I forgot to mention: thePharmacy has offered me a permanent contract. In Holland it is quite normal to work on a one-year term a couple of years first. So to have them offer me a full contract after only one year as an employee shows quite some respect.

It is great to feel appreciated and to be offered a full contract so soon. It also doesn't hurt that the work we do at thePharmacy is just great. I feel at home there, so I will return the respect by signing.

Anyway, hope you're having a great weekend?! Speak soon!

Out now!

October 17, 2008

There's a new game available from 'Het Huis Anubis'. Het Huis Anubis is a Dutch-Belgian show made by Studio100 for Nickelodeon.

ThePharmacy (where I work) had already made the online game for the first series. This year another company built the online game, with mixed success, while we were working on a CD-ROM game. I have done all kinds of supporting work on the game. I've helped during the concept, design and testing.

There's more to be out soon, but I cannot really tell much about it at this point. But its all exciting stuff!

Take care and have a great weekend!

Schiphol, copycats

October 13, 2008

Schiphol Airport has a new commercial on television. And its rubbish. Not because it was executed poorly, but because of its concept.

I love marketing and have studied it quite a bit over the years. Original marketing is absolutely fantastic. But Schiphol has copied a slogan from Nespresso and thats just poor. No creativity, just dreadful.

Nespresso has George Clooney in its commercials. The slogan is "Nespresso. What else?". Wanna know the new slogan of my country's biggest airport? Its "Schiphol. Where else?". What do you think? Copied? I'd think so...

I also have a nice weblink for you guys. As someone who uses Adobe Photoshop on a daily basis, its fun to see some pretty big mistakes in some serious ads for big clients. Take a look at this website: http://photoshopdisasters.blogspot.com/.

Anyway, gotta go, get some work done. Take care.

Middle Ages

October 12, 2008

Today I've been back to my old hometown of Hooge Mierde. After some interesting archeological items were found in the village, they decided to take the village back to the Middle Ages.

The old professions, child plays, music, food and drink, everything was there to make people believe they were in the Middle Ages. It was nice and I've enjoyed being back in Hooge Mierde. Its a totally different world from 's-Hertogenbosch, where I live now.

In a village everyone knows one another. People start talking to you and there's this community feel about it. In 's-Hertogenbosch our neighbours even find it hard to reply to our 'hello' or 'good morning'. What a totally different world!

The city also has its charm, but somehow the small village always gives me a good feeling. An event like the Middle Age event would have been better in 's-Hertogenbosch, mostly because the funds over here would have been much better. But you've gotta give credit to the people organizing the event in the small village. They've put their hearts into the event and it looked nice.

This Friday the family expo is opening. This Tuesday I'll have to deliver my work at the gallery. I don't know how people will react to my work. I can only hope they are open-minded to new techniques and skill. Ah well, within two weeks from the opening its all done.

For now, I am just relaxing a bit before another week at work. I have this feeling that its gonna be busy again...

Take care and speak soon.

Weekend

October 7, 2008

Back to work today after a long weekend. We've been to a bungalow in Belgium with Nadine's family. It was actually quite nice. In advance the weatherman predicted terrible weather, but overall I think we didn't have anything to complain about.

We've done a lot in the weekend: shopping in Wijnegem, swimming, air-hockey, karting, laserquest... and we celebrated the birthday of my father in law - who shares his birthday with me.

It was really great to go karting once more. I have done it a lot just a few years ago, but I hadn't stepped into a go-kart for at least three years. I haven't lost it though, I still love the thrill of trying to set better laps as I go along. The adrenaline still gets me. Totally love it.

Anyway, back to work now. Lots of stuff to get done.

Take care.

Great gifts

October 1, 2008

Last weekend I celebrated my birthday. My 29th birthday. Only one more year to go to 30. But I am absolutely not bothered by that to be honest. The only thing that I think is a shame is that time really flies...

This year I got some amazing gifts with one in particular. I got the whole series of the That 70's Show on DVD - okay, almost whole series, the entire set isn't sold in Holland just yet. I love the That 70's Show, it was the greatest comedy in years.

The only thing is that I now will have to find some time to actually also look at all the DVD's...

I have also decided not to bother with the family exposition anymore. Last weekend a nephew of mine, a "real artist" stated that my work would be downgrading the art exposition. Like my work would degrade the rest of the exposition.

That was it for me. I have a proven track record for 10 years, working for amazing and high-profile clients who thankfully do regard my work as an art. Maybe its not like the traditional art my nephew has in mind, but I regard my work as a form of art. So to have a nephew who's fresh out of school and has yet to start a real career state that my work is downgrading the expo was the last strike for me.

I will expose my work out of respect for my grandparents, but as far as I am concerned this exposition is fucked up and I am fed up with it. Fuck traditional artists who are narrow-minded. How can they claim to be real artists but not be open-minded to new techniques?

Ah well, when he gets to my age - he'll understand his comments were out of place. Wisdom comes with age. ;)

Speak to you soon and take care.
