Blog November 2007

Last week

November 25, 2007

So, this week will be my last at DHvV Interactive Lab. Its going to be a tough week and a week that will probably leave me with a bad taste in my mouth.

Back in March 2007 I got the option to join DHvV Interactive Lab, something I had wanted to do for some time before that. So when I finally managed to land a job there I was the happiest designer in the world.

In September I received a job offer from another company and after much thought, I decided to go for that job offer.

Over the past weeks I have been working at DHvV Interactive Lab and that new company. At DHvV to give them some time to find a new guy and at the new employer to get myself started over there.

Its been hectic and busy and finally it comes down to this week. Friday is my last day at DHvV Interactive Lab.

As you may have mentioned I don't mention the name of the new employer just yet. Reason for that is that I haven't got a signed contract yet. It was supposed to be signed November 1st, but that never really happened.

I feel a bit uneasy about that point. I can, at this point, only hope I have made the right decision in leaving an employer I always wanted to have as an employer.

As soon as the contract is a certainty and I feel easy about it, I will tell you more about the new employer.

Until then I wish you all the very best.
Speak soon!

I'm a killer...

November 19, 2007

We have had trouble with silverfish since we moved into our appartment. Because these things are growing and living in the walls, there is no way to kill them all.

But last weekend we bought some stuff that seems to work brilliantly!

This morning when I left the house I sprayed it over most of the floor. When I got back home, I counted at least 20 casualties! A previous liquid that we bought only killed 2 or 3 at that time, but now, in one blow - I got 20+!

I normally don't kill living creatures, but silverfish are just a big pest to have in the house. And because they're in the walls, they will always come back.

But now I am prepared to strike back! Hohohahoha (my devilish laugh)!

Take care.

Busy weeks

November 18, 2007

I think you all recognize this. The last weeks of the year are always extremely busy. And so are mine. The next weekends are all filled.

Today I have talked Photoshop with an uncle of Nadine. I have hopefully managed to give him some important hints and tips on how Photoshop works. I am expecting his first artworks soon... ;)

Next weekend we are helping Nadine's sister and her husband and kids move. Sunday we are visiting my parents (because it will be the last time we can in the next weeks).

The weekend after that we have a guest on Saturday and a pary on Sunday. The weekend after that we have the Christmas party of Nadine's work (and yes, that takes all weekend!).

So the next weeks are going to be stuffed, because I am also still combining two jobs... I hope I'll survive... ; )

Take care and all the best.

F*ck#d up

November 16, 2007

Hello again and my apologies for not posting earlier - which I had promised. Things haven't been going great at my side, so I didn't find the time to blog.

As some of you may already know through emails I had decided to quit at DHvV. A better offer had been made and I had decided to go for it.

So far I find it difficult to get into the new job and leave the old one behind. But I simply have to as there is no way back.

The whole thing is giving me bad headaches again. I haven't woken up a single day in the past week without a headache.

At this point I can only hope things work out for me. If they don't I think I should really start thinking about my career. Maybe I'm not cutting it as multimedia designer anymore.

Ah well, guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens. First I need to try and wake up without a headache. Thats my first step. We'll then take it from there.

All the best and take care.

Credits

November 11, 2007

Some time ago I posted a message on this blog for the book Adobe Illustrator CS3 Wow! Mainly because my work is in it and I wanted to give the book a bit of promotion.

How sorry do I feel now...

Because my complimentary copy (when you work on a book you normally get a complimentary copy from the publisher) didn't arrive at all, I had purchased it myself through Amazon.

Anyone is allowed to use my work for whatever reason. I only ask for three things all the time: credits, a weblink and a complimentary issue. For this book I made the same agreement. So it is disappointing to see my wishes aren't met.

Sure, they did give me credits for the work - but no link anywhere. And there's even a list of all artist included in the book (well, except for me then).

It probably is an honest mistake. Just a poor one from my side of view obviously.

Luckily Nadine and I had a stuffed weekend with lots of fun so I could forget all about it pretty quickly. Yesterday we went ice-skating as the season for it has really kicked off again.

The only downpart was that the chocolate-shop wasn't open. There's a little shop at the track that serves warm choco. When you're skating on ice you always tend to get a bit cold and a warm choco is a little piece of heaven then.

Ah well, I had a good weekend and I hope you can all say the same. Oh yeah, I'll also try to post more stuff on this blog, because I've been a bit slow in posting, haven't I?

Take care.

Driving to work

November 5, 2007

Today I've been driving to work. Something I hadn't done since for a long time. It was total bliss to drive to work again.

Not that the train is that bad, but its not that the train is that good. Public transportation isn't that great in general.

If you need to do overtime (like I did today) or you need to travel somewhere for work - what is better than your own car? Nothing that is.

The past weeks I've been travelling with day tickets. A retour-ticket for Den Bosch - Eindhoven costs almost € 9,-. If I look at how often I had to show my ticket I could have saved myself € 63,- in the past two weeks!

If you're ever planning on travelling on that line, I can tell you that Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday are pretty safe - If you know what I mean... ;)

Ah well. Luckily I get to drive to work more often this month.
Take care and speak soon.
