What a week

September 23, 2007

What a freakin' week it has been. Its been so very busy at work that, at work, we didn't even have time to have a chat about my contract (which expires next week).

Also we've visited another hospital this Saturday - that's the second visit in as many weeks.

Last week we visited Nadine's grandfather in the hospital. Yesterday we visited the husband of my sister. Thank God both are released from the hospital as I am typing this.

One of the few highlights of the week must be that I got myself a new mobile phone. Finally I've upgraded. I've chosen the Nokia N73. Personally, I am a big fan of the Nokia phones.

Well, another big week ahead of me. Next weekend I'll hopefully find some time to relax. Its been a bit too hectic after my holiday last month if you'd ask me...

Talk soon, take care.

The weekend

September 16, 2007

After two weeks of working really hard (one of the guys at DHvV was on holiday) and fighting an angry virus I caught in Turkey - I thought this would be my weekend.

Guess I was wrong. I did have a nice weekend, but it started out in the worst possible way...

On Friday, whilst boarding my train, a client called me on my mobile. An angry client that is. A website I had worked on had some major problems and apparantly had gone live on the web.

It was my first bad encounter with a client in 7,5 years. I feel it wasn't entirely down to me, but still it had hit me hard. Mostly because it was the first bad encounter in years. But also because I had tried to help out that client all week (even though I explained to him that programming isn't my special skill).

I don't usually swear much, but I couldn't resist myself whilst boarding the train. It was the worst start of the weekend this year. Luckily the rest of the weekend worked out well, but still it bites... and the two weeks of hard work became meaningless.

Take care, speak soon.

Illustrator CS3 Wow!

September 11, 2007

In a couple of weeks this book by Sharon Steuer, and many co-authors, will be available and you should really check it out if you're an Illustrator fanatic.

The book showcases 100 tips, tricks and techniques from 100 top illustrator artists.

The book showcases many projects where Illustrator was a key part of the project. One of the projects in the book is an animation I once made in Flash, but have set up in Illustrator.

The book will be out a couple of days before my birthday, so I guess I'm getting an early birthday present this year!

Take care, speak soon.

Tosca

September 9, 2007

After not feeling too damn good this weekend, my feelings got another big blow this morning.

My parents have two dogs. One called Tosca and one called Terra (but we refer to that one as Terror). Over the past days Tosca was limping all the time so my parents took her to the pet doctor.

The doctor found that Tosca has a severely damaged knee and hip. In fact, the dog does have constant pain when jumping or running. And jumping and running is what it does - because its a young dog (not even three years old). And young dogs want to jump and run around.

So within the next six months the dog has to lose weight. Once that has happened they can operate on the dog. There is no guarantees and it will cost a lot of money - but I am glad that my parents will try anything to get Tosca to live longer and without pain. And if I can help, I definately will.

I hope Tosca will manage to get through the following months so that the operation can take place and will solve everything.

To end this entry on a positive note - me and Nadine have been to Ratatouille, the latest Pixar movie. We've had dinner and seen the movie with my sister and her husband and my brother and his girlfriend. All I can say is that its another strike for Pixar! It was a really nice movie.

Take care and speak soon.

Wikipedia

September 2, 2007

Over the past week Wikipedia has been in the news a lot over here in The Netherlands. Main reason: people found out that people can create and alter their own page! OMG!

Princess Mabel had changed the page on Wikipedia that was about her.

The princess may have (read: has) lied about her past. This was mentioned on Wikipedia and she thought it was a good idea to change that on the international (English) version of Wikipedia.

A lot of people were surprised and outraged that this was possible. Those people have been living under rocks I guess.

People have always been changing and creating their own pages. Do they really think that all these wanna-be Dutch celebs had a page dedicated to them? Hell no - those pages were created by the celebs themselves.

I think the biggest mistake in this situation was made by the princess. If she wouldn't have changed her page, the story wouldn't have been out there again. She brought it on herself that the stories about her past are fresh again.

Anyway, I'm glad I'm not on Wikipedia. Imagine all those people writing the truth about me... ; )

Take care.
