The Third

June 23, 2007

Today we've gone and seen Shrek the Third. It will probably be the last one I needed to see. What a bummer.

Same as with most sequels: too packed. Too much same old jokes, too much needless action, too little story... And the list goes on.

I read an article that stated number 4 and 5 will be made and that Puss will have its own spin-off movie. Can't believe it...

The only real positive about seeing Shrek the Third was the trailer for Pixar's Ratatouille! That movie is gonna rock! Directed by Brad Bird, known for Pixar's Incredibles (which I think is one of the many highlights of Pixar movies) I only expect the very best!

Oh man, can't wait for August, when Ratatouille is out here. And Pixar, please, if it turns out to be a success: don't turn it into a series...

All the best and take care.

Good old Tetris

June 17, 2007

Sorry for the delay in posting something on the blog. I've been quite busy and will be for the next weeks.

Today though I have relaxed a bit, together with Nadine. We've been playing Tetris for quite some hours. I had this old game that I bought back in 1999 or maybe even before that...

We took it out of the cupboard and installed it. Apparantly there's a player vs player mode, which was really cool! Good fun, with good old Tetris. Sometimes these simple kind of games are nice compared to the overwhelming graphics, difficulty and speed of modern games.

I'll try to write again soon... With some more interesting stuff.

Take care.

Grandfather do tell us...

June 10, 2007

Some of you may recall I started a lucky clover project back in April. Well, after about 10 weeks the clovers are finally there! The result can be seen on the photo to the right.

Amazing that I finally managed to get it right. All other plants have died under my care... Ah well, I just don't have green fingers I guess.

Yesterday we have visited my grandparents. It was really great. Especially because a niece of mine had bought my grandfather the book "Grandfather, do tell us...". The idea is that your grandfather fills the book with stories about his childhood, marriage, WWII and more.

Amazing to read how simple life could be back then. I noticed he hasn't written everything down (he has shared many great stories with me and Nadine when we visited my grandparents), but still, its a book to treasure.

Personally it made me feel really bad about our time. Sure, my grandparents had tough times and had to try and get through a war. But the atmosphere amongst the people back then was great. People all knew eachother and carried eachother through the good times and the bad.

In a time we all sit behind computers and hardly know our neighbours it is nice to read that people were different some time ago. A lot of kids will look back and find it hard to imagine a world without the Wii, the PlayStation3 or cars and computers.

But frankly I wouldn't have mind a bit to live back then. Even if it was just that one day I could write amazing stories to my grandkids. But when my time comes I guess I'm writing it down in some kind of digital book and mostly writing about how computers and television changed life...

Take care and say "hi" to your neighbours for me. ;)

3D Printing

June 7, 2007

Just a little while ago I posted something about how expensive ink-cartridges were. Well, there's an even more expensive way to print and its done in 3D!

3D printing? Yeah, I thought the same. Flat paper, watch it with green-red glasses. Or maybe something else, but flat none the less.

Well, it seems printing has really gone 3D. You won't believe what's possible with this new 3D printing technique. Watch this YouTube video.

Take care.

Nostalgia

June 3, 2007

This time my blog is about something most people reading it very likely never heard of before. Its about Jan zonder Vrees (John without fear in English).

Its a movie made by Belgians back in 1984. Because we lived close to Belgium we often watched Belgian television.

This weekend I hooked the video-recorder to my dvd-recorder to make DVD versions of some old tapes for my sister. I stumbled upon a video of my own containing Jan zonder Vrees.

I watched it as a kid on Belgian television, which was way better than Dutch television. Looking back at it this weekend (while recording it on DVD) I find it hard to believe I was once afraid of the bad guy (Kludde) in the movie. Amazing how differently something looks years later, well, about 19 years later!

Sure, the movie never reaches a quality you can expect from Disney or any other major studio. That doesn't matter at all though - I still like the movie. Its a bit of nostalgia that I have preserved on DVD now. One day I will show my kids this movie. I know they'll have seen all kinds of Pixar material and laugh at me, but I won't care.

Anyway, if you are into nostalgia too, check out these websites: Eightees Club and Retrojunk.

All the best and speak soon.
