Nadine's Birthday

April 30, 2007

Today Nadine turned 26 years old! We actually celebrated it yesterday though. Today it would have been difficult for guests to come into the city of Den Bosch by car. It would also have been difficult to find a parking space.

Reason? The Queen visited Den Bosch today for Queensday (in Dutch: Koninginnedag).

Though I have nothing with the monarchy and see no reason for it, we did go and have a look. I have placed some photos in the Photos section.

More importantly: Nadine had a good birthday. My gift to her was a new leather jacket and today I have cooked an Indonesian meal for her (Nadine's family is from Indonesia). We had a good meal and ended the day by watching the amazing fireworks Den Bosch fired from the citadel to end Queensday in truly great fashion!

Apart from that my lucky clover project is going really well. The plants are really high though - really weird stuff. Also still enjoying working at the new employer. So overall, no reasons to complain about anything!

And lots of good stuff on the agenda. This Wednesday my mother turns 52 and Friday so does Nadines mom. Meaning: more parties to come!

Take care.

Past week

April 22, 2007

Pfew, what a week has passed. Its been a stuffed week, but good overall.

Trains were really bad this week, but the weather was great!

My project with the lucky clovers is showing signs of success. There's actually something growing already (see right).

We, me and Nadine, ended the week by taking my sister and her boyfriend to Zinderend. Its a very nice restaurant in Eindhoven. If you happen to be in Eindhoven sometimes, go check it out.

Today there was a family party from Nadine's aunt Pop. Again, it was really nice. It was a good time in true 'Brabantse' (Brabant is the region in which we live) fashion. This Friday, the next party is on our schedule, it taking place at my parents' house.

Next week will be stuffed too. Nadine will turn 26 that week! On that same day the Queen of the Netherlands will visit us. Well, not us, but the city of Den Bosch. Personally I don't have much with royals, but we probably will check it out. ;)

The week after that there's even more parties in the planning. Ah well, I didn't say it was a bad sign that my weeks are stuffed...

Take care.

First major problems

April 17, 2007

Yesterday I endured the first major problems with the train since travelling to work by train. In the morning I took a train to work that was already 45 minutes late - the train I was supposed to take was 25 minutes behind schedule...

All because of the first warm days?

Eager to learn more about my favourite kind of transportation (uhum) I tried to find out why the train had these problems. I mean, we've still got the summer to go - and temperatures will be higher by then according to Al Gore.

A lot of problems are caused by small fires near the tracks. But I didn't spot any whilst on the train... Looking further it could also be something they call "spoorspatting" in Holland. It means the metal of the tracks bends a bit, so trains have to travel slower not to get derailed. But normally this happens at higher temperatures and when it has been warm for multiple days.

Maybe Al Gore can tell me how he manages to travel around the world in these temperatures to tell everyone "an inconvenient truth" . Ah well, he's probably travelling in boats, airoplanes and cars that are fuelled by the sun... Or is he...?

Take care.

The Project

April 15, 2007

Sorry for being slow in posting on this blog. Its been really good weather over here, so I have enjoyed it while it lasts...

I've also helped my sister, who is now really moving into her house. Next week me and Nadine are taking her and her soon-to-be husband for dinner.

We remembered how nice it was to take a break while moving. So it was only logical to take them to a nice restaurant and possibly the casino or something.

I have started a project now. A while ago our supermarket handed out lucky clovers. Or well the bulbs. Finally I have placed them in a small cup. It will now take approximately 10 weeks for us to see the clovers. Knowing myself and my patience, something will go wrong after a few weeks. Ah well... At least I tried.

I'll try to post more soon.

Take care.

Happy Easter

April 8, 2007

I've just finished my first week at the new company and already there's a day off! Its time for hiding and finding chocolate eggs, easter!

Normally with easter they show Jesus Christ Superstar on the television, but it appears that The Passion of the Christ is finding its place on the television screen during easter.

Well, like any holiday, I just like the holidays because it means the family meets up. This year for sure, because tomorrow my dad will turn 52. Happy Birthday dad and looking forward to the cake and drinks! ; )

To you all, don't eat too many eggs!

Take care, speak soon.

Train

April 2, 2007

So far, so good. Today was my first day at the new employer (www.dhvv.nl) and the first day of me travelling to work by train.

Nadine, my girlfriend, has been travelling by train most of her time, but for me it is totally new. I have always been driving to work.

I have often waited for Nadine to arrive home when there was yet another delay. So I am a bit fearful for these type of delays on my route too. Today there was already a delay, but luckily for me - not on the train I needed to be on!

Ah well, I'll just have to wait and see how it turns out. Also what happens when there's major crowds travelling at the same time. Because I am working at later times than before at the moment, I have a feeling the real crowds have already passed by the time I get on the train.

The first day was pretty good by the way. A lot more work to be done than expected - great challenge! Over the past years I have had busy and slow times as Project 79 and at the part-time employers. Looks like those days are gone: I've got enough on my planning and I am liking it!

Take care and speak soon.
